It is a flammable liquid, celebrated for its characteristically pleasant aroma similar to that of many glues and nail polish removers. Methyl acetate is occasionally employed as a solvent, owing to its weakly polar nature and lipophiliccharacteristics, but its close counterpart ethyl acetate is preferred as a solvent for its lower toxicity and greater water solubility. Methyl acetate showcases a solubility of 25% in water at ambient temperatures. Notably, at elevated temperatures, its solubility significantly increases.
